Astro Girls: Yi Soyeon

Since its release Astro Girl has been winning fans and praise around the world. The book would be less inspiring without the mention of the women astronauts.

I found many women to add to the list and am attempting to tell you about each one of these inspiring and pioneering people.

Yi Soyeon was the first South Korean citizen in space in 2008. Yi spent a total of nine days in space carrying out medical tests and experiments on the Russian Soyuz TMA-11 which had docked with the International Space Station (ISS). A technical problem on the way back to Earth led to a bumpy landing but all three astronauts survived. After her flight, Yi worked as a researcher at KARI and as Korea’s space ambassador with fellow astronaut Ko San.
